Book review

Children’s Nepali books that I recommend

Mangale ko Changa (Nepali)

Author: Punyasheel Gautam

Mangale ko Changa is a Nepali rhyme story book for children. Mangale and his friend get together and get a kite to fly. At the end of the story boys let go of the kite and aspire to see the kite again in space. The book explores the idea of working together to achieve a goal. This is an ideal book to introduce to a child as it has rhymes and contains short and simple sentences.

Farmer Duck (bilingual)

Author: Martin Waddell

Farmer Duck is a story about a duck who is constantly working at the farm doing all the hard work while the lazy farmer is laying on the bed all day. The burden is too much for duck to handle so the farm animals hatch a plan to get rid of the lazy farmer. This book teaches a lesson about laziness and the consequences of that.

Keeping Up with Cheetah (bilingual)

Author: Lindsay Camp

Keeping Up with Cheetah is a story about friendship between a hippo and a cheetah. Cheetah loves to run while hippo struggles to keep up with cheetah. Eventually, cheetah decides to find someone who can keep up with him. At the end, cheetah and hippo realise that they should accept each other as they are. The moral of the story is to accept each other as they are.

These are the books I could find in my local library. I have not mentioned I see the sun in Nepal as I have already written about it in here.

Reading books together is a great way to introduce your child to a life long love of reading. Moreover, it has many benefits such as increase in child’s vocabulary and language skills, helps child develop empathy and exercises their brain. Not only that reading together is fun and helps bond as a family.

If you know any Nepali or bilingual children books please let us know in the comment section.

So grab a book and read away!
